Rachel here. What is it about fancy hotels that fe Rachel here.
What is it about fancy hotels that feels so luxurious?

Simply walking through those pristine lobbies, with their soft light and ridiculously fancy chairs – it just makes you feel.... affluent.

It's one of the reasons I love doing my big planning and goal setting in expensive hotels – even if I'm not staying there!

No matter where I travel in the world, I’ve always enjoyed using the luxurious cafe’s, gardens or lounge areas of nice hotels as a place to plan, dream, and reach beyond my current reality.

In Asia it was Anantara – with its plush cushion seats and long emerald ponds filled with orchids and lily pads stretching across exotic gardens.

And in Europe its The Four Season or Intercontinental – with its sophisticated setting, breathtaking views, and attentive staff with romantic accents asking you politely, "Another espresso ma’am?"

In the States, it’s any number of eccentric establishments – with their posh, jazzy vibe, astute ambition, and boundless energy.

There’s something about superb service and a affluent, well-designed environment that’s exciting, and slightly surreal.

It’s the same feeling you get when you book a one-way ticket to another land… that feeling of pending adventure… the excitement of the unknown… and a chance to explore, building up within you.

Anticipation of something new. Something adventurous.

“Everyone falls backwards into copywriting. No o “Everyone falls backwards into copywriting. No one grows up saying, “I want to be a direct response copywriter”.

Today the Business of Writing Podcast meets Mike Abramov.

At first glance, Mike looks more like a sports jock than a copywriter... but don't be deceived.

While he is indeed a former athlete who studied physical therapy, he now writes health copy for some of the biggest names in direct response.

He's written for industry titans like Agora, PaleoHacks, The Dig Agency, NativePath, and Organifi — but a 'bro marketer' he is not.

He’s a huge proponent of getting coaching and mentorship — and paying that forward to coaching students of his own — as well as working on your own emotional hang-ups about writing.

Don’t miss this episode if you want to know how he manages his own perfectionist tendencies, and the great debate of oatmeal vs chocolate chip cookies.

Rachel here. There are so many different paths to Rachel here.
There are so many different paths to success.

I was thinking about this today while reading an article about JK Rowling.

She recently made some controversial remarks about gender roles, and has been caught up in a bit of a social-media whirlwind. (And by “whirlwind”, I mean dumpster fire)

The scandal itself is irrelevant, but it’s a good example of one of the pitfalls that comes with being a “famous” writer.

Since Rowling started scribbling Harry Potter on a cocktail napkin in a tiny Scottish pub, the books have been translated into 73 languages, sold more than 450 million copies globally, and gained over $20 billion from sponsorships and movie adaptations.

That success, along with a die-hard fan base, have made this once-struggling-single-mother into an A-list celebrity author.

Now of course, that fame comes with many benefits! Money (Rowling is worth over $1 Billion), influence, getting recognized locally and globally, supporting fans, getting special treatment…

All that sounds pretty good.

But not everyone feels like the good stuff outweighs the downsides of being widely-known (paparazzi, no privacy, getting backlash when you share opinions, mouth-breathing stalkers).

On the opposite side of the spectrum, take a look at Suzanne Collins who wrote The Hunger Games.

The success of this other young-adult franchise rivals that of Harry Potter. The first book appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 260 consecutive weeks (more than five consecutive years), and there are more than 100 million copies of all three books in the trilogy in print worldwide.

Yet Collins (her $80 Million net worth is nothing to sneeze at) has no social media, appears in minimal interviews, and reveals very little about her personal life to the public eye.

Personally, I love the idea of being ridiculously rich and successful while fading into the background to live my life in peace.

But you may not! You might LIKE all the fame and attention and fun that comes with everything involved in being a “celebrity.”

Best thing -you can have it any way you choose. Click link in bio to learn how…
